BEST MOUNTAIN BIKES 2023: LIVELY, PRECISE, AND QUICK, THE NEW RYVE 115 IS ONE OF THE QUICKEST TRAIL BIKES YOU CAN BUY

"The new Ryve pedals very well, a trait I’ve experienced in every Spot with the Living Link rear suspension design. For whatever reason, this design seems to imbue Spot’s bikes with unique sensations of extra punch and efficiency. This bikeclimbs. And not just because it pedals so well but because the suspension is reactive and generates tons of traction ... If you’re seeking an extra reactive trail bike that climbs very well, feels light and lively, rewards precision riding, and still offers modern trail bike performance on the descents, few bikes can fulfill your wants like the Ryve 115."

First Test: Next Generation Spot Ryve 115

"Compared to the generation 1 Ryve 115, generation 2 is an entirely different beast ... I may risk losing your trust when I say this, but the 26.7-pound Ryve 115 feels as if it accelerates uphill. It’s as close as you can get to an e-bike feel for the pure of heart. Spot’s claim that the leaf spring stores energy and releases it in the form of a power boost sounds too good to be true but there is something to it. I honestly enjoy long steep climbs on this bike. That’s because for every watt of energy that you put into it, you get rewarded in spades. The bike moves uphill with ease. It’s nimble, reactive, and balanced. No other suspension design really compares when it comes to climbing performance. There’s no need to fuss with lockouts or switches either, I rode uphill and downhill with the shock fully open ... Spot calls the Ryve 115 a “Big-Loop trail bike”. That’s as good a description as any, but the rider really defines their own category for this bike. The climbing efficiency and downhill capabilities create an overall fun-factor that will inspire longer, big mountain rides and weeknight hot laps. Whatever your skill level, the Ryve 115 won’t hold you back. If you like to sprint uphill and demoralize your riding buddies, it’s there for you. If you speed-test every descent, let it rip. If you can do both, well then, the Ryve 115 is your daisy."

SPOT-ON

"As progressive as this XC bike is, it still does its best work on the climbs, conquering them faster and easier than any trail-focused bike we've ridden. The suspension feels firm underfoot and resistant to body movements. Hit a bump, however, and it responds, keeping the rider in the saddle and powering the pedals. This not only keeps the rider planted, but also maintains rear-tire traction. In fact, this is one of the best bikes we've ridden up technical climbs. It's light, quick and has just enough suspension to maintain forward drive ... given how well this bike climbed, test riders were a little surprised by the Ryve 115's descending prowess. It craves speed and feels somewhat comfortable in steeper terrain that makes many XC bikes flinch. Small-to-mid-bump performance is also a pleasant surprise. Considering its low amount of wheel travel, it does a very good job of keeping the tires on the ground and clawing for traction."

First Full Suspension Bike

I took several years off riding and got back into at a regular basis, decided it was finally time to go full suspension. I've always have been a steel is real person and been riding a Moots since '13 and had other steel and titanium bikes before. Looked into a soft tail to take the edge off and was talking to friend that rides a Mayhem 130, he told me to look into this bike. After a talk with Mason, I ordered it. I will admit this bike is fun to ride! Totally to the edge off that I wanted!! I'm able to go faster through the trails than before and did not lose any climbing speed. Never realized you can change your line on a full suspension and it will roll through it.

It just brings joy

I’ve been on a 2018 Rocky Mountain Element — as high end as I could realistically make the bike. It weighs in at 24 lbs even, with pedals and bottle cages. After 6 years I got the jones for a new bike — test rode a top of the line 2024 Santa Cruz Blur (XX Transmission). It did nothing for me that my Element wasn’t doing. Then I test rode the Spot Ryve 115 (6 star AXS build) and was so impressed by both descending and climbing, so ordered on the Spot (pun intended). Despite an almost 4 pounds added by the time the Ryve has pedals and a bottle cages, it climbs faster and clearly takes the power I put into the pedals and puts more of into the back wheel than the Element did. The way the front and rear suspension work together is just a joy. Certain technical sections on my local trails that felt like it killed the Element or Blurs momentum no longer do that as I power through on the Spot. It’s no surprise the Ryve is laterally stiffer than the Element (or Blur)

Opportunity to demo a bike in real setting is awesome!

I was able to ride right from the shop on the Ryve 115 and test out the bike on real trails. 2 miles up the road, roll off onto some singletrack, ride for an hour, roll back to the shop. Whipped out my credit card and bought a Ryve. It was great!

Great short travel bike

Really enjoying the Ryve v2. Was not able to test ride before buying, but was intrigued by the idea behind the leaf spring. Customer service was fantastic at answering questions. Had my first good weekend on it in western NC. While it was a little under biked on some bigger trails, it was a blast on all the others. Great pedaling bike and goes downhill well. Great bike to handle big days and looking forward to tons more miles.

Great bike

I enjoy riding this. I have gone a dozen times since receiving and have already broken a few of my old records on the local single track. I love having the 6 star AXS build, however, I would've loved if that build came with the fox suspension (3 position shock and fork) as the rock shox has only 2 position shock and only 1 position on the fork and no lockout. Not sure why that is part of a build as they don't seem to be "Ultimate". Other than that disappointment everything else is as expected.
