Favorite Bike I've Ever Owned

I've owned a lot of bikes in my life and this is by far my favorite. It climbs incredible fast and handles extremely well on the down hills.

Upstate NY SS

The "winter" pricing was hard to resist, but I had a spare I9 wheelset from my FS bike, so I decided to build a custom with the (M) frameset. The significant differences over stock were:

* 90mm stem (short legs, long torso for 5'8")

* XT brakes

* 780mm bars (more leverage for climbing/downhills)

* X01 crank

* Nobby Nics (2.4", better traction for NE trails)

* 39/30 gearing (38 vs. 48 stock gear inches, emphasis on easier climbing for OUR terrain)

After a half dozen rides, this has been my favorite MTB (since 1987). Hard not to repeat the positive comments from everyone else, but I can climb better on this bike than anything else I've tried, AND I'm outclimbing my friends on their FS geared bikes (and, like someone else said, I'm not missing my FS bike). SS hardtail definitely turns you into a "better" rider, always looking for the smoothest lines, anticipating the steeper climbs, timing the sprint bursts during descents, etc.. Handling is crisp and solid, and the geometry is well balanced for both seated and standing climbing. Build weight was 20.0lbs before pedals and sealant, so that definitely contributes to its climbing ability. I'm not going to win any downhill races on this thing, especially with its low gearing, but it does everything else so well (and I love the belt drive), and that's what makes me happy!

Been riding SS for ~20 years.

What a great bike. Pedal efficiency, great look, smooth cornering. Couldn't be happier. It is a very noticable improvement to my former SS bike. So happy I pulled the trigger and purchased the SPOT. I am a new happy customer. Just starred the next phase of life in retirement with a new friend.

Lastly, thank you Spot team for expediting my build to bring the bike to our summer home in Northern Michigan. The bikes eats this place up. Wonderful trails.

So good.

It's fun running everything over and blowing by people on this rally truck of a SS. It climbs great to, but it's a beast on the downhills.
